Something about the loose scatter of leaves calls to mind a trattoria terrace after the lunch rush, a bowl of blood oranges catching the last of the light and a cat asleep under the one chair nobody claimed. Blue and green foliage spreads across the interior in uneven clusters, no two branches quite matching. Hand-thrown by potters in Fayoum, then painted freehand across every surface, inside and out, so no two bowls carry quite the same brushwork. Bare terracotta rings the rim and foot, left unpainted so the clay itself does the framing. Wide enough to hold a whole panzanella.

About the Maker
The workshop behind this piece brings Egyptian craft into daily use, working with artisans across the country: Fayoum potters shaping the ceramics, Akhmim weavers turning out textiles in a region that's been making cloth since antiquity, and basket weavers working wicker and palm by hand into covers and trim. Built around the belief that these skills are worth keeping alive, the workshop also runs a training school teaching embroidery to women who work from home, and is building an artist residency to keep the crafts evolving rather than freezing into imitation. Every piece traces back to a specific set of hands, not a factory line.
