Green Leaves Serving Bowl
Blue dots crowd the surface of this bowl like static, a field dense enough to buzz. Green fronds land across it as if scattered by hand. Potters in Fayoum mold and paint each piece individually, so the dot density thickens or thins depending on whose hand was at work that day, no two bowls landing on the same rhythm. Wide and shallow, it's nicely suited for a mound of couscous.

About the Maker
The workshop behind this piece brings Egyptian craft into daily use, working with artisans across the country: Fayoum potters shaping the ceramics, Akhmim weavers turning out textiles in a region that's been making cloth since antiquity, and basket weavers working wicker and palm by hand into covers and trim. Built around the belief that these skills are worth keeping alive, the workshop also runs a training school teaching embroidery to women who work from home, and is building an artist residency to keep the crafts evolving rather than freezing into imitation. Every piece traces back to a specific set of hands, not a factory line.
