Raphael's career lasted barely two decades before his death at 37, and still produced The School of Athens and The Three Graces — enough to place him alongside Michelangelo and Leonardo as one of the three names that define the High Renaissance. This volume covers all of it at large format: the Madonnas, the mythological scenes, portraits running from Pope Julius II to Baldassare Castiglione, reproduced large enough to catch the radiant color and brushwork that made his religious paintings feel less like doctrine than like people in a room.
