Pot Pourri in Terracotta Jar
A blend of buds, leaves, roots, and berries, prepared to a formula that hasn't changed in more than three hundred years, aged for months inside earthenware sealed with wax until the oils fully take hold. The jar itself is hand-shaped and unglazed, part of a tradition tracing back to 1221, when Dominican friars first grew herbs for their monastery infirmary, in what became the oldest pharmacy still in operation. Lift the lid to release the scent, and stir now and then to keep it going. Nothing to remember except to leave the lid slightly ajar.

About the Brand
Founded in Florence in 1221 by Dominican friars, Santa Maria Novella is one of the world's oldest apothecaries. What began as a monastic pursuit of herbal remedies grew into something larger: the friars treated one of the city's most powerful merchant families, who repaid them with a chapel that still houses the shop today. In 1533, Catherine de' Medici brought their apprentice perfumer with her to the French court, carrying the workshop's name across Europe before the pharmacy had even opened its doors to the public. When it finally did, it drew the patronage of the Grand Duke of Tuscany himself. What began as balms and remedies for the sick gradually gave way to fragrance, skincare, and traditional soapmaking, though the address never changed, and neither, in large part, did the methods. Each product still reflects that same slowness, made with care, in the heart of Florence.
