Aura Vase
A substantial vase in deep plum glass, with walls that flare gently outward like a tulip just beginning to open. The color gathers where the glass is thickest, darkening to near-aubergine at the sides and softening to a rosy glow at the center, while a heavy clear base catches the light underneath. Its wide mouth was made for an abundant, loosely gathered bunch: blowsy garden roses, a few heads of hydrangea, dahlias at the end of the season. Empty, it's just as good on a sideboard, where afternoon sun turns it the color of a good Burgundy.
