ART360: Nancy Mckie

PORTA is delighted to announce the latest exhibition in our Art360 series, featuring the botanical works of UK-based artist Nancy McKie.

In this exclusive collection, McKie presents a series of acrylic paintings on handmade paper, complemented by four intimate canvas works with artist-painted frames. The exhibition showcases McKie's signature spontaneous style while exploring a more subdued palette dominated by serene blues and greens—colors that simultaneously evoke tranquility and depth, creating a meditative visual field.

About Nancy Mckie

McKie's botanical subjects are rendered with a deliberate flatness that challenges traditional dimensional representation. This reductive approach creates a tension between figuration and abstraction, where familiar natural forms are distilled to their essential linear elements. Each plant is captured against a monochromatic background, decontextualizing the subjects from time and space—inviting viewers to engage with the pure formal qualities of shape, negative space, and rhythmic line work. The textural interplay between the acrylic medium and the handmade paper substrate adds a haptic dimension to the work, establishing a material dialogue that echoes the organic qualities of the botanical subjects themselves.

The exhibition features works in various scales, from commanding large-format pieces measuring 39.5 x 27 inches, to more intimate compositions that create powerful visual narratives when viewed in constellation with one another.

This collection is exclusive to PORTA and will be on view and available for acquisition throughout the summer.

About ART360

Art360 is an ongoing series in our 360 Atlantic Avenue space that showcases the work of artists that we love and want to celebrate. Informed by the past, speaking to the future and placing you in the present, art in your home is more than decoration - it frames and reflects who you are within that. Through ART360 we are excited to present artists that have both the aesthetic strength and the conceptual depth to ground their work in continued relevance and ongoing interest.
