Art360: Isabel Bacon

About Isabel Bacon

Isabel Bacon is a collage artist living and working between New York City and Ipswich, MA. Bacon makes cut-out images made of brightly colored Canson Mi-Teinte paper. Inspired by the people around her and the places she travels, she creates joyful scenes that come to life in vibrant, simplified forms. In a style reminiscent of Matisse and Alex Katz, Bacon’s collages utilize bold shapes and high-contrast colors. Her material is largely informed by her observations of the street and beach, and her characters are resplendent with perfect, whimsical details: a Speedo, a mustache, a gold chain, a cigarette. Working with a limited arsenal of acid-free paper, glue, and scissors, Bacon conveys movement and energy on a flat plane and brings to life timeless scenes from the beaches of Santorini to the boardwalks of Coney Island.

The series spotlights beckoning vignettes of summer from refreshing moments of serenity to the vibrant energy of summer play.
