Last week, we gathered in Charleston for a dinner with the brilliant Basic Kitchen, hosted in the exquisite home of Felicia and Brad Taylor — a space shaped with such warmth and detail by Basic Projects.
A Guide to Guesting Well
The evening brought together artists, interior designers, chefs, founders, and collectors — people who have rooted themselves in Charleston and formed a community rich in curiosity, creativity, and depth. Vibrant, thoughtful, inspiring.
Dinner was cooked by Chef Charlie Layton — Mediterranean in spirit, served family-style, full of flavor and ease. Dishes passed from hand to hand, the table leaning in. (We’ll be sharing more from Charlie soon in our In the Kitchen series.)
Maybe it was the table, or the house, or Charleston itself—but the night moved at a wonderfully unhurried pace. Conversations stretched and no one was in a rush to move on. During our days there, we kept laughing about how spacious time felt—how present one can be within it. The city, and the people who call it home, seem to return your hours to you with a softness of tone and generosity of spirit.
